From the Runway to the Screen — Gigi Hadid Just Made Her First Acting Move
Nobody saw this one coming. Gigi Hadid — the supermodel whose face has graced more magazine covers than most people have had hot meals — just quietly made her onscreen acting debut, and honestly? She did not ease into it gently. She walked in with a casserole dish and stole an entire scene.

The 31-year-old appeared as a surprise cameo in episode three of Mindy Kaling's brand new Hulu comedy series Not Suitable for Work, which premiered on June 2. Her character, Catherine, is the girlfriend of investment banker Bill Gibson, played by Jay Ellis — and let's just say Catherine does not take being stood up on her anniversary very well.
Chilaquiles, Designer Bags, and a Very Public Breakup
Here is how the scene plays out. Bill is in the middle of chewing out his employee AJ, played by Ella Hunt, over a risky business call that actually paid off. Mid-lecture, Catherine bursts through the office door holding a casserole dish, furious that her boyfriend left on their anniversary without a word.
What follows is the kind of scene that makes you immediately replay it. Catherine had been up since 4 AM planning chilaquiles and, well, other things. Bill tries to redirect the argument into his private office. Catherine refuses. And when Bill calls her irrational, she throws the food at him.
According to E! News, her parting line before storming out was nothing short of iconic: "My heart cannot survive on luxury travel and designer bags and orgasms alone."
She then handed her designer purse to AJ before reconsidering — and taking it back to sell on eBay. Because even in heartbreak, Gigi's character has her priorities straight.
This Was Not Actually Her First Mindy Project
What makes this debut especially fun is that it is not the first time Gigi and Mindy Kaling have worked together. Years before any of this, Mindy recruited Gigi to narrate the inner thoughts of fan-favorite character Paxton Hall-Yoshida, played by Darren Barnet, during season two of Never Have I Ever on Netflix.
The joke wrote itself, and Gigi leaned into it brilliantly. Her character explained the unusual casting choice to viewers directly: "You may be asking yourself, why is old Gig-ers taking time out of her busy skedge to narrate the story of a 16-year-old boy? Believe it or not, I relate to this kid. We're both constantly underestimated because people only see us as sex symbols. When scientists declare your face to be perfectly symmetrical, that's all everyone thinks you have to offer the world."
Then Paxton spilled water on his shirtless chest mid-monologue, and Gigi broke character immediately — "Paxton, dude, put a shirt on! I'm trying to make a point here!" — which is the funniest thing a supermodel has ever said on camera.
The woman clearly has comedic timing. It just took a casserole dish and a Hulu series for the world to finally see it.
Not Suitable for Work Is Already Turning Heads
The show itself is already generating serious buzz. Not Suitable for Work centers on five ambitious twenty-somethings chasing professional success — and maybe, if they can squeeze it in, personal happiness — in Manhattan's Murray Hill neighborhood. It has Mindy Kaling's signature blend of sharp workplace humor and messy romantic chaos written all over it.
With a cast that includes Jay Ellis and Ella Hunt, and now a cameo from Gigi Hadid that people cannot stop talking about, the show has landed on Hulu at exactly the right moment. The remaining episodes are already being eagerly anticipated, and given how much attention that one scene has already generated, it is safe to say the internet is going to be watching every episode closely for what comes next.
As for Gigi — runway queen, mother to daughter Khai with ex Zayn Malik, and now verified scene-stealer — it looks like the acting world just got a little more interesting.
