Ray J Gets Knocked Out in MMA Fight, Shares Health Update

Ray J Got Knocked Out in an MMA Fight. Here's How He's Doing

Look, nobody was expecting Ray J to become an MMA fighter. But here we are in 2026, and the 45-year-old R&B singer just took a knockout loss in a real fight — and fans are genuinely worried about him.

On May 23, Ray J stepped into the ring at Adin Ross' UFC Apex event in Las Vegas and went up against YouTuber Supa Hot Fire. It did not go well. He got knocked out, and the footage made the rounds on social media almost instantly.

But just a few days later, the "One Wish" singer popped back up online to let everyone know he is still standing — well, mostly.

"Waiting for My Knot to Go Down"

According to E! News, Ray J posted an Instagram Story on May 27 saying simply, "Getting better. I'll see y'all on Friday." Classic Ray J — knocked out on Saturday, cracking jokes by Wednesday.

He had been set to perform at the Pete Be Center in San Jose, California on May 29, but venue owner Pete Be confirmed that show has been pushed to June. In a video that Ray J shared himself, Pete said he had just spoken with Ray and that the two wanted to make sure he brings the right energy when he shows up.

Ray J wrote over the clip, with laughing emojis, "Waiting for my knot to go down." And then, because of course he did, he added: "Do KNOT miss my comeback on 6/27."

Even with a lump on his head, the man is still writing puns.

He did confirm he is still planning to appear at R&B Night Out in Fresno, California on May 30, so at least some of his schedule is staying intact.

This Fight Came at a Genuinely Scary Time

Here is the thing that makes this knockout more than just a funny celebrity moment. Ray J has been through a very rough few months health-wise, and the MMA fight happening in the middle of all of it raised some eyebrows.

Back in January, he was hospitalized with pneumonia. What followed was a string of deeply personal, alarming posts in which he claimed his heart was only beating at 25 percent and that his lifestyle over the years had genuinely caught up with him.

"I f--ked up," he said during a January 27 Instagram livestream. "I thought I was big so I could handle all the alcohol, I could handle all the Adderall, I could handle all the drugs — but I couldn't. It curved my time here."

He even said, bluntly, that 2027 was "definitely a wrap" for him, pointing to his heart and saying it was "black" and "done." It was hard to watch. His fans did not know what to make of it.

By the end of January, though, the tone shifted. E! News obtained a video in which Ray J said he was feeling better and his rep confirmed that a recent doctor's visit had done "miracles." So there was relief — but also confusion about why, just a few months after all of that, he was now jumping into an MMA cage.

A Father of Two Who Keeps Putting Himself on the Line

Behind all the stunts and the social media chaos, Ray J is a dad. He shares daughter Melody, 8, and son Epik, 6, with estranged wife Princess Love, and that context is not lost on people watching his recent decisions with some concern.

The humor in his knockout posts is very much on brand for him. Ray J has always dealt with tough moments by leaning into the joke rather than away from it. And honestly, the fact that he is already posting, already planning performances, and already writing puns about his head injury does suggest he is genuinely okay.

Still, his fans are watching closely. After everything he shared about his health earlier this year, a knockout in a celebrity MMA fight was not exactly what anyone had in mind for his recovery arc.

Here is hoping the knot goes down in time for that June comeback.
