Kate Gosselin Cries on TikTok Over Struggles With Rescue Dog
Adopting a rescue dog sounds beautiful in theory. In practice? It can completely break you down — and Kate Gosselin is not pretending otherwise.

The former star of Jon and Kate Plus 8 posted an emotional TikTok update on May 26, day 12 of integrating her newly adopted rescue dog Koda into her home. And by her own admission, she had already been crying that morning before she even hit record.
"I was just crying this morning," she said in the video. "I'm tired. It's getting to be a lot, which makes me sound like a baby, but the truth is, I've just been on watch constantly hoping nothing, you know, happens and watching them all the time."
Meet Koda — The Dog With a "Humongous Personality"
Koda is a Belgian Malinois mix puppy, and if you know anything about the breed, you already understand why Kate is exhausted. Malinois dogs are working animals through and through. They were built for police work, military training, and search and rescue missions. They do not do "relaxed." They do not do "chill afternoon on the couch." They run, and then they run some more.
According to People, Kate described Koda as having a "humongous personality" and said the dog could "run forever." She has become obsessed with her ball, is constantly in motion, and at just 12 days in, has already managed to destroy a rug and chew up Nanuq's bed — a dog bed Kate had owned for over 15 years and described as very special to her.
That last part clearly hit differently. Kate started crying again mid-video when she mentioned the bed.
Balancing Two Dogs Is No Small Thing
Before Koda arrived, Kate already had Meika, her German Shepherd, at home. Introducing a high-energy rescue puppy into a space that already has an established dog is one of the more stressful things a pet owner can take on, and Kate is feeling every bit of it.
She compared the scheduling and supervision required to raising her eight children — which, coming from a woman who spent years managing a household of ten people, is saying something. She also made a point of being honest about her age. "I am 51 now," she said. "I'm not 29, 30. So it's just gotten to be a lot."
Her partner Steve Neild has been helping carry the load, but on the day of the video, Steve was at work, leaving Kate alone to manage both dogs. Her coping method? Bob Ross painting on the TV, walks, and hoping for the best.
The Ghost of NuNu Hanging Over Everything
There is another layer to this story that makes it even more emotional. Kate adopted Koda not long after losing her beloved dog Nanuq, who she called NuNu. The loss was devastating. According to AOL, she posted a tribute on Instagram that read: "I will spend the rest of my life missing you NuNu. Life will never be the same. I loved you more than life itself. I'm so sorry I couldn't save you."
That grief is still fresh. And now she is in the middle of a chaotic, exhausting integration process with a brand new dog, while that loss clearly still sits heavy. It is a lot for anyone to carry.
She Is Still Hanging In — And That Matters
Here is the thing about Kate's update that is easy to miss if you are just watching for the drama: she never said she was giving up. Not once.
As reported by IBTimes, she acknowledged that the "pressure" and "strain and stress" had been weighing on both her and Steve, but she was clear that she understood it was part of the process. She noted that training with Koda would be starting soon, and she ended on something quietly powerful.
"Probably no one else would have saved her," she said. "So I know that we're doing a good thing. We just have to hang in."
That is not someone who is failing at rescue. That is someone in the middle of it, being completely honest about how hard the middle actually is. And honestly? That is exactly the kind of update the internet needs more of.
